We are The Commonwealth Pipes & Drums, a Grade 2 pipe band proud to call Boston, Massachusetts home. Our path here has been a steady climb: we started as a parade band, then spent years competing in Grade 5. In 2019 we were upgraded to Grade 4, and for the 2024 season we moved up again to Grade 3, where we've competed for the last three seasons. During that stretch we competed locally as well as at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland in 2025, and won the Grade 3 North American Championships in Ontario in both 2025 and 2026. Now, for the 2027 season, we've earned our upgrade to Grade 2 -- and this summer we'll return to Glasgow to compete at Worlds once again, this time as a Grade 2 band.

With a legacy spanning over a century and formally re-established in 2017, the band is about more than competition. We practice weekly on Tuesdays and monthly on Sundays at the Knights of Columbus in Melrose, just outside Boston, a home base where we connect with our community. Each year we bring our music to the community through performances including Pipes of Christmas in downtown Boston every December, the Chelmsford Fourth of July Parade, and the University of Massachusetts, Lowell graduation each May, where we have the privilege of marching the graduates as they celebrate receiving their degrees.
